Citizen scientists identify new form of northern lights
Space researchers and amateur photographers in Finland have identified a new type of aurora, or northern lights. They call them “dunes.” Read more and see a video. Source: https://earthsky.org/earth/citizen-scientists-new-aurora-northern-lights-dunes…
New Type of Aurora Called ‘The Dunes’ Documented
davidwr writes: Remember the aurora-that-wasn’t called STEVE from last April? Well, amateur stargazers in Finland are at it again. This time it’s for a new kind of aurora dubbed “the dunes.” These new aurora are thought to be an example of a “mesosphereic bore” in which oxygen is exited by the solar wind or possibly gravity waves. The original paper can…
Glowing green ‘dunes’ in the sky mesmerized skygazers. They turned out to be a new kind of aurora.

Citizen scientists discover a new form of the Northern Lights
Working together with space researchers, Finnish amateur photographers have discovered a new auroral form. Named “dunes” by the hobbyists, the phenomenon is believed to be caused by waves of oxygen atoms glowing due to a stream of particles released from the Sun. New global geologic map of Titan, Saturn’s largest moon
The 1st-ever map showing the global geology of Saturn’s moon Titan reveals a dynamic world of dunes, lakes, plains, craters and other terrains. Source: https://earthsky.org/space/geolical-global-map-titan…
A new theory to explain how the dunes on Titan formed
A trio of researchers with the University of Hawaii has developed a new theory to explain how the dunes on Saturn’s largest moon, Titan, may have formed. In their paper published in the journal Science Advances, Matthew Abplanalp, Robert Frigge and Ralf Kaiser suggest that rather than forming from rainfall, the dunes have formed on the moon’s surface. Strange sand dunes on Titan could be made by cosmic rays hitting ice
Saturn’s largest moon Titan has strange sand dunes that seem to be full of organic molecules, which may form when radiation from space hits ice on the ground Source: https://www.newscientist.com/article/2219926-strange-sand-dunes-on-titan-could-be-made-by-cosmic-rays-hitting-ice/?utm_campaign=RSS%7CNSNS&utm_source=NSNS&utm_medium=RSS&utm_content=home…
