Don’t miss these cyclones on Jupiter, and more
The Juno spacecraft’s last perijove – or closest point to Jupiter – resulted in a treasure trove of images. Its next perijove is coming up on December 26. Get updated here, and view Juno’s latest amazing images. Source: https://earthsky.org/space/jupiter-juno-cyclones-images-dec-2019…
Water on giant exoplanets both common and scarce
A new study of the atmospheres of known giant exoplanets suggests that water – an essential ingredient for life – may be common on other worlds in our Milky Way galaxy. At the same, there may be less of it than astronomers once expected. Source: https://earthsky.org/space/water-giant-exoplanets-both-common-and-scarce…
Huge New Storm Creates Hexagon at Jupiter’s South Pole
NASA’s Juno probe discovered a giant new storm swirling near Jupiter’s south pole last month, a few weeks after pulling off a dramatic death-dodging maneuver. Source: https://www.livescience.com/giant-storm-discovered-jupiter.html
NASA’s Juno navigators enable Jupiter cyclone discovery
Jupiter’s south pole has a new cyclone. The discovery of the massive Jovian tempest occurred on Nov. 3, 2019, during the most recent data-gathering flyby of Jupiter by NASA’s Juno spacecraft. It was the 22nd flyby during which the solar-powered spacecraft collected science data on the gas giant, soaring only 2,175 miles (3,500 kilometers) above its cloud tops. The flyby also…
New York City Ride-Hailing Upstart Juno Shuts Down
Juno, an upstart ride-hailing company in New York City, is shutting down as part of a new partnership between parent company Gett and Lyft. From a report: Gett’s corporate customers will now be able to book rides via Lyft in the U.S., and some Belarus-based employees are joining Lyft, the latter tells Axios.

NASA’s Juno prepares to jump Jupiter’s shadow
NASA’s Juno mission to Jupiter has successfully executed a 10.5-hour propulsive maneuver—extraordinarily long by mission standards. The goal of the burn, as its known, will keep the solar-powered spacecraft out of what would have been a mission-ending shadow cast by Jupiter on the spacecraft during its next close flyby of the planet on Nov. 3, 2019. Ka-bam! Signs of a giant impact with Jupiter
Scientists used Juno spacecraft data and models of how Jupiter’s inner core should look to probe the giant planet’s early history. They now think an object with 10 times Earth’s mass might have struck Jupiter billions of years ago. Source: https://earthsky.org/space/core-shows-possible-giant-impact-for-jupiter…
